Christa and I were hired to take family pictures today for a couple and their young child here in Magnolia today. As has become our custom, we arranged to take the photos at nearby Logoly State Park, which was a non-stop riot of natural beauty this late-autumn afternoon. The chorus to U2’s “Beautiful Day” kept running through my head. We conducted kind of a mini-tour around the park, shooting photos first down by the lake shore, then on the trail, on two small bridges and finally at Magnesia Springs, an abandoned natural spring-site that is now basically a drained swimming pool, where the faded and stained concrete makes a great backdrop for portraits. The air was crisp and it was far too cool for mosquitoes and snakes. (I’ve never seen a snake at Logoly, but I’ve been chased out of the park by enormous mosquitoes. Neither was a problem today.) Our customers, I think, got some great pictures out of the trip, and I took some extemporaneous photos of the sheer natural beauty that surrounded us. Here are a couple of examples.
